When Films Design City

Tuesday, 19th of March 2013 / Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM), Schaumainkai 43 / 7:30 PM

Film lectures and discussions in English

In cooperation with the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) The relationships between film and architecture are many: If one thinks of set construction and set design initially, a second glance reveals a deeper affinity in the perception of the city and film: Which modes of presentation do film and architecture use to design “space”? Which patterns exist in the cinematic representation and perception of urbanity? To what extent do city films and film cities have a bearing on the design process of architects and urban planners? And: How are cinematic fiction and urban reality connected – How do they influence each other? During the opening event of the thematic framework programme we are moving these and other issues into focus. In a talk with a film presentation we take a look at the history, meaning and function of cinematic and architectural designs of the “City”.
